Starting at the AT crossing on VA-621, we will cross a low bridge, a high bridge over Craig Creek into Brush Mountain East Wilderness, and then a series of five low bridges. After a mile we will start the ascent of Brush Mountain. At 3.2 miles the AT starts to follow an old grassy road along the ridgecrest. At 3.8 miles we will take the blue-blaze about 50 yards to the the Audie Murphy Monument, a tribute to the most decorated soldier of WWII, who died in a plane crash on the mountain in 1971. The AT continues on the ridgecrest and starts descending towards VA-620 at 4.6 miles. There will be some nice vistas on the way down. At 7.6 miles we will cross VA-620 and Trout Creek heading on to the AT trailhead on VA-624. After crossing Trout Creek, we will ascend through a fire recovery area, pass by the Pickle Branch shelter, and ascend to the ridge, which we will follow around the crescent-shaped top of Cove Mountain to Dragon's Tooth with its great views and rock-scrambling opportunities. We will descend to lost spectacles gap and continue on the AT over Rawies Rest for more nice rocks and complete 113-Mile Hike #6 finish at the VA-624 trailhead as well as 113-Mike Hike #7.
