Starts across VA-779 from the Andy Layne parking lot ending by crossing VA-311 and walking up to the Dragon's Tooth parking lot. It climbs North Mountain on the gently graded Catawba Valley Trail, and we turn left when we reach the North Mountain trail at the ridgeline. The rest of the hike is an up-and-down ridge walk, with views on both sides visible through the trees in winter. It is rated strenuous because of the relentless up and downs. We pass the Turkey, Grouse, and Deer trails which can be combined with the North Trail to make interesting loops.
