Big Horse Gap - Ribble Trail Loop

Begins at the AT crossing of USFS-103 at Big Horse Gap at 3800 Sugar Run Rd, Pearisburg, VA. From there go Left, SW, on a FS road to a T and 100 feet to the right.

Start South on the AT and quickly pick up the Ribble trail on the right. The Ribble Trail was originally a section of the AT before a relocation and is now blazed blue. We start with a steep 2.5 mile descent. In another half mile we will reconnect with the AT and turn back north to return. Crossing over Dismal Creek several times and passing Wapiti Shelter, we climb up to the ridge of Sugar Run Mt. Nice views of the valley below are found at about 7.5 miles into the hike. The trail continues on the ridge back to our parking area.
