Saddle Gap/AT/Saltlog Gap Loop

Walk off a few of those holiday pounds by joining the Charlottesville Chapter of the PATC on a loop which is not found on any maps - yet. Starting on Hercules Road (near where the AT crosses the James River), we will climb the Saddle Gap Trail to the AT. We will hike northbound on the Appalachian Trail to Saltlog Gap, then descend on the Saltlog Gap Trail, with occasional views of Fullers Rocks and the James River, through the Hercules Mine quarry, and back to our cars.

8 miles, strenuous terrain
Total ascent: 1800 feet.
Roanoke hikers can carpool from Daleville at 9 then meet the Charlottesville group at the Appalachian Trail parking area on U.S. 201 on the north side of the Foot Bridge over the James River around 10:30.
