We will be starting out at the A.T. crossing on the top of Garden Mountain in scenic Burkes Garden, Tazewell County (elevation 4,000 feet). The hike will go south on the AT, for 6.2 miles to Chestnut Knob shelter. It will then backtrack to Walker’s Gap. There are good views of Burkes Garden along the trail. There will be an option to drive through Burke’s Garden on the way home, which is a very beautiful part of the state.
