War Spur Trail/AT Loop

The hike is located in the Mountain Lake Wilderness area in Giles County.  The hike starts on the Chestnut Trail, reaching the War Spur Branch Trail after one mile. The trail follows the stream, passing beneath old-growth hemlocks. It then connects with the AT, passing several fern-ringed upland bogs. Near the end of the hike, the trail passes Wind Rock, which offers sweeping views across to Fork Mountain and West Virginia.
