Hidden away at the corner of Montgomery, Roanoke, and Floyd counties is the Bottom Creek Gorge Preserve on top of Bent Mountain.The Nature Conservancy has developed a network of trails that pass ponds, streams and meadows and follow tunnels of rhododendron that lead you around and down to the Bottom Creek George, then up to a vantage point to see Bent Mountain Falls flow from a mountain side.

Directions from the Orange Market:

From I-81, take exit #141, Route 419 south, to Salem.
Go south on Route 419 for about eight miles to Route 221 at Cave Spring.
Take US- 221 south for 13.8 miles to Route 644.
1/2 mile past Parkway entrance, RIGHT VA-644
1.1 miles, RIGHT fork on VA-669
DO NOT turn right on Bottom Creek Road.
1.5 miles, stay RIGHT on VA-669.
LEFT at Preserve sign
Go up the gravel driveway to the gate.
Park and walk 1/2 mile to the trailheads, sign and trailmaps.

From Blacksburg and Christiansburg:

Take US-11/460 northeast to Shawsville.
RIGHT VA-637 (Allegheny Springs Road).
7 miles, STRAIGHT VA-653 (Not left VA-637)
[StopSign] LEFT VA-610.
[StopSign] LEFT US-221.
7 miles, LEFT VA-644.
1.1 mile RIGHT fork VA-669
LEFT at Preserve sign
Go up the gravel driveway to the gate.
